- Andy Edgecombe
raised over £500 with her Big OC Pram Push in Cambridge on Sunday 25
September.
Andy writes:
It was a glorious, sunny September morning when we assembled at The Orchard Café, Grantchester, ready for the sponsored four-mile walk to Cambridge and back. There were eleven adults and seven children, families and friends pushing buggies with teddies in. We had lost five babies from OC between us.
The start of the walk was on a path across the river meadows, where we had to skip over the cowpats left by the cattle grazing there. Having managed not to slip up, we crossed the busy Fen Causeway and headed over Sheeps Green to the bridge over the Cam at Silver Street, our half-way point. Time to stop for an ice-cream and try to interest people in putting money in our collecting tins. We had strong competition from the handsome young men trying to get the tourists to take a punt ride.
On the way back across the Fen we couldn't resist stopping at the children's play area, and it wasn't just the children who had a go on some of the apparatus! Loo stops were needed too, but we eventually returned to the café after about two and a half hours. Luckily the cows were not interested in chasing us, as I had feared.
We all sat outside the café and rewarded ourselves with salads, cakes and drinks, though none of us were tempted to 'have honey still for tea' in the words of Rupert Brooke's famous poem about this café.
My thanks to everyone who took part and to their sponsors: the final total should be about £500. Especial thanks to Jenny Chambers who came from Birmingham to join us, the day after she had just said 'Goodbye' to her younger son, Tim, starting out on his new life as a music student at university.
The event was a great day out. The youngest to take part was Grace, not yet five. We felt a common bond and we knew we were doing it for the sake of future families, so that they may not have to go through the worst of traumas, like us.
- A big thank you to Bayram Mendirez and Lindy Mendirez who
asked relatives to support research into OC rather than buy baptism
presents and as a result have raised over £150.

Lindy had this to say when she wrote to Jenny Chambers: "We are so grateful to OC support UK for the help and support they provided to us when I was pregnant was diagnosed at 33 weeks with OC last year. I was so afraid and in a tizz until I found your organisation and the support I received from the OC support helpline was an absolute godsend. Jem was my third baby, and he has two big brothers Erren and Talay who adore him. My lovely family and friends were very generous when we asked for donations instead of gifts for his baptism as we wanted to give something back to hopefully help other ladies and their babies who have OC through your continued research. Thank you so much to you and Jenn Deasington, and all at OC Support UK. We wish you much success in your fundraising efforts, and pray that your research will lead to a future where all OC babies are born healthy'. - A big thank you to Dean
and Kelly Ivil, who held their annual golf day in memory
of their son, Danny, who was stillborn because of OC. Says
Dean, 'We had 42 players this year and we started six years ago with
only 16. Every year has been a success with more people wanting to play
each year. The London fire brigade have been victorious on all
occasions, but each year it has got closer and closer. I guess it's
only a matter of time before the paramedics take the
trophy!'. The day raised just inder £1000, which is a
fantastic achievement! Our thanks go to everyone who
supported the day and especially to Kelly and Dean.

- Katy Hutt ran
in the Leeds Abbey Dash, a 10 km run on 20 November, raising
almost £300.

- Ray Rawlings was successful in her slimathon and raised nearly £300.
